Coffee shops historically have been a gathering spot for poets, artists and malcontents seeking a forum to espouse their views; which just happens to be the purpose of this community. So, let's have at it.

Coffee Buns

April 16th 2008 11:15
Forget about Biscotti and Bagels with your coffee. Muffins and cookies? Nope, won't do the trick, too sweet for me. These buns are definitely for the coffee addicts. Coffee on your drink AND your pastry.

I'm not sure if this has been introduced in Australia or the US, I am quite sure though this started in Singapore and have been brought here to Manila.

They're called Coffee Buns -- famous in Singapore with stores called Roti Mum, Pappa Roti, and Rotiboy. Here in Manila, I've seen only two -- Kopi Roti and Roti Mum.

Imagine a bun about as big as your hand, hard crust outside that looks and gloriously smells like espresso. Cut right through the middle or simply bite it and you discover a soft, fluffy and buttery pastry inside that literally melts in your mouth. The sweet and bittery, buttery and salty taste combines perfectly in your mouth giving you an experience to remember.

What can I say, it's coffee flavored and goes perfectly well with what else? Coffee!

Ah, now I want to grab one.

I'll leave you for a few minutes, you'll be alright here?

Hazel please find the recipe and post it, they sound great. I'd like two ~ coconut ~ whole cream ~ no foam ~ double latte grande's and four of those buns; the missus and I will set here by the window and while the morning away.

Oh no Raven, unfortunately, I don't think the recipe for this one is readily available. I will try my best and look for one though. I saw how they're made on a feature on TV before and it looked complicated.

Here are your drinks and of course the coffee bun enjoy!
