Coffee shops historically have been a gathering spot for poets, artists and malcontents seeking a forum to espouse their views; which just happens to be the purpose of this community. So, let's have at it.

Our New Hostess

April 1st 2008 05:07

Well hello again, I reached an agreement with our new hostess, Hazel and she'll be posting on Friday's, while I post on Monday's ~ your Tuesday, unless it's Wednesday or Thursday. The point is, we're going to try it this way to give you a chance to interact with a civilized host occasionally. Probably better smelling as well.

Ingredients for 3 Berry Scones:

• 2 cups all-purpose flour
• 3 tablespoons sugar
• 1 tablespoon baking powder
• 1/2 teaspoon table salt
• 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, chilled and cut into small pieces
• 1 cup buttermilk
• 1 1/2 cups frozen unsweetened mixed berries

Directions:

• Preheat oven to 400ΊF.
• Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
• In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
• Mix in butter until mixture is size of fine crumbs.
• Stir in buttermilk, then berries.
• On a prepared baking sheet, shape dough into two 7-inch circles.
• Cut each into 6 wedges; coat with butter-flavored cooking spray.
• Bake until cooked through and golden, about 20 minutes.
• Back away from the service tray to avoid injury and announce that they are ready.

Share these with a friend, and serve with a hot mug of your favorite coffee, chocolate or tea. Scones are a universal treat. This has been an unsolicited plug for the international black market scone industry and sweat shops union local 1431.

I'd like two hot scones with butter and a jaffa milkshake please. It's such a long way here, and I'm cold.

Where's the cat and why do you no longer sweep the floor, is this the internet cafe without quips now. That is, unless I missed something.

Oh, I see, that's the quip down the end there. Please be quick, I'm shivering.

Where's the cat? That darn cat got mad and had a fit when I attached her fuzzy butt to a dust mop handle and was swabbing the floor with her. I haven't seen her since she escaped in the middle of that floor cleaning job. What a moody animal.

Here ya go katyzzz, hot buttered scones n jaffa shake for your pleasure. Oh, yeah the quips, they uh, they went feral and escaped while I was chasing the cat.

Enjoy my friend, sounds like you have had a hard day.

No, I've had an amazingly good day, it was the journey up here that got me.

Poor puss, no one could ever accuse you of not having an inventive turn of mind, from the cat, to the floor, to the quips. You've got it all covered, I just can't compete but you can bet I whip up a post faster. No quality, you can tell.

So long as it pays ha ha ha ha ha ah ahaha ha ahah LOL

They sound great Nomad, are they spiced up a lot? I exaggerate the flavorings in pumpkin pie, I love the exotic flavor of them. Raven

Hiya Toni, two servings of Triple Berry scones coming up. Would you like them warmed up or room temperature? They're delicious either way.

Great Tracy, you are welcome to do your studies here if you'd like to; oh and the wireless internet service is free.

hahaha, Hazel, our gourmet chocolate is wonderful hot or cold. We cater to kids around this place.

Ah, life is good in the slowed down lane. Raven

Oh that sounds delightful, Raven...but the temptation to chomp on scones all day would be hard to resist....are they low-fat?

Absolutely, . . .well, I think so anyway Tracy, intense mental activity burns off any harmful ingredient in foods served here. So, yup, you're safe to munch on scones to your hearts content or until the bathroom scales break down from your not gaining weight.. Raven

ahh.. G'morning from this side of the earth.

I'm in dire need of some wake-me-upper caffeine fix.

Got about 3 hours of sleep as my son sang and danced and walked around the room the whole night. he couldn't seem to get sleepy. He never runs out of stories from the books he reads every night (which is about the same three books over and over anyway!)

Need the biggest cup we have.

Naw, that's why I have a cat Tracy, I'll just staple him to an old broom handle and use it to clean the floor. hahaha, sorry, I'm joking , . . . it's actually the dogs job. 'Scuse me, power broom coming through, wow, these little electric gadgets are handy. I'm glad I got a couple. There, see, over with in a flash. Would you like a fresh scone Lady Tracy? Raven

Sure, we have a spinach crab quiche wrap or a Tex Mex breakfast burrito, any of those sound good Tracy?

They are my answer for the breakfast on the run bunch, very tasty and filling. The burrito is usually prepared vegetarian style, but is also prepared with sausage, shredded beef or chicken. So my hard driving friend, what'll you have? Raven
