Coffee Rituals
July 13th 2008 19:35
Hey, welcome to the Coffee Quip, c'mon in and get comfortable. The only way to start your day is with cup in hand.
One of the many things I love about early mornings with Tisha is our coffee ritual and quiet time, most often spent starring out of our window and sipping at our very hot beverages.
Oddly, neither of us likes to start out with tepid coffee, but we will cheerfully savor n sip at it until the heat has left the building and the brew.
We prepare our favorite coffee in a well worn coffee press, pour each of us a huge mug of this heavenly ambrosia and top it off with a creamer until it has reached perfection and then we race off with our liquid treasures in hand to the nearest couch. Once we are comfortably settled in, the sipping commences.
Medford has learned to wait until the sipping part of the ritual begins before claiming his right to join us, and once he has done so, the atmosphere is transformed as if by magic. He purrs ever so purfectly, we sigh and sip while watching Eagles search out breakfast and misty clouds disconnect from the water and forests to rise heavenward along with our spirits. Then we look for snacks to go with the 2nd cup, and to help you through that minor dilemma, heres a recipe to try called Cherry Coffee Cake (click to view link)
Cherry Coffee Cake
Old-fashioned goodness with
everyday ingredients.
Topping:
3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats, uncooked
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/3 cup butter or margarine, softened
Batter:
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 (21-ounce) can cherry filling and topping
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
Preparation:
For topping, combine flour, oats, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg in a medium mixing bowl; mix well. Cut in butter to make a crumbly mixture. Set aside.
For batter, combine sugar, flour, baking powder and salt in a large mixing bowl. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add milk and eggs; mix just until dry ingredients are moistened. Do not overmix; batter will be lumpy. Spread half the batter into a lightly greased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Spoon cherry filling evenly over batter. Top with remaining batter. Sprinkle reserved topping over batter.
Bake in a preheated 350° F oven 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve warm.
Makes 12 servings.
Hopefully, you'll get through this day unscathed or tarnished, but if not, welcome to lifes reality show; it doesn't get any better than this.

May I have some of that cherry slice without the coffee and I found it very hard to attend today as I don't like coffee, but a hot chocolate should hit the spot. Thanks.
Your mood must be better today, see how un- cranky I am?
The Eagles have landed I see.
Bye~

Medford is a pistol, he's got Tisha wrapped around his paw; me, I remain aloof and indifferent until he starts with the purring thing and turn into mush.
Eagles are amazing to observe, most of the young have been booted from the nest and are learning the ropes of survival-it's an all or nothing test. Some of their efforts are down right entertaining.
