Coffee shops historically have been a gathering spot for poets, artists and malcontents seeking a forum to espouse their views; which just happens to be the purpose of this community. So, let's have at it.

Coffee Quip Prediction

June 10th 2008 23:20

Wow, this has been quite the week already fellow caffeine addled friends. I am resting here at my computer station with a giant mug, which is filled with a delightful Japanese green tea and Ginseng with a tiny spoonful of sweetener. Yup, here I sit, savoring, sipping and gritching to myself.

In my other life, as a blogger, I argued and fussed with everyone in sight this past week about politics n world events and I still feel unsettled. It isn’t enough that I care passionately about a topic and try to present my views in an orderly manner, only to discover no one wanted to hear an opposing viewpoint. No, I am foolish enough to believe that a blog is an open forum unless noted otherwise. But what do you do with a private open forum; the concept never occurred to me. I am what you see, a freight train, my opinions are out in the open for the world to see. I share virtually everything, no holds barred. But I spread things out to all six of my blogs. I contend honestly and openly for the hearts and mind of others.

Here in the Coffee Quip, you’ll find me baking strudel, making latte’s and dispensing my brand of sage advice to the walls or to no one in particular at all, about topics that matter. Anyway, now that you're here, grab yer self a snitzell and some coffee and I’ll share a dire dark prediction with you.

If the politicians in the USA don’t get on board the logic train, there will be a war fought over fuel resources and it will be nuclear. The US absolutely needs to mandate that 80% of new vehicles sold in the US within the next 5 years are flex fueled, whether they are hybrids or not. Existing vehicles on the road need to have flex fueled kits installed during that same time period. Or, we'll have little need for politicians.

US oil fields need to be drilled; refineries need to be built and fuel efficient technology needs to be brought into play. Infrastructural facilities to produce and sell alcohol fuels need to be built. And, water conservation needs to be mandated. World society as we know it may be in imminent danger of collapse within the next 5 to ten years over fuel, food and water issues.

Mark this on your calenders, I've alerted you. Politics and religion be damned when survival of mankind is at risk: learn to talk and negotiate or perish. Americans need to learn restraint and self sacrifice for the good of themselves and others. A great accomplishment has been made when all parties to a negotiation leave the table equally unhappy or happy ~ neither really matters, only an accord does.

Palestinians and Israeli's can get along if destruction is hovering overhead, and guess what? Look up, it's here. We know the differences now find common ground.

This has been a conscience driven alert.

Because these monkeys aren't going to warn you.

More coffee?

What I cannot understand is this, NASA can send people to the moon and probes to Mars and who knows where else in outer space, why can't the US invent something that will make the use of oil insignificant, or passe? I mean, billions of dollars are spent in waging a war. How much would it cost to discover and perfect the use of an alternative energy?

Well, maybe I just had one two many cups of this Kalinga brew.

Actually MN, we have the infrastructure in place, but industry is profit driven, if the mandate I outlined were enforced, you'd soon see alternative energy sources:

We already have:
geo-themal steam generators
wind turbines
low head hydro turbine
temp flux heating and cooling systems
we can already design energy efficient homes that can produce it's own energy

What we don't have is a government body that will drive laws to mandate change and that is because no one is willing to demand the government change, largely because it will cause us some sacrifices. And that includes environmentalists allowing industry to shift focus, and then clean up it's mess by using some of it's profits to do so, rather than to fight law suits.

Which will be a moot concern in the event we destroy our living environment via a war or pollution.

Well, profit I can understand Raven. Provided we still have those neat little places where we can spend the dough.

Politics and religion be damned when survival of mankind is at risk

Raven, I really couldn't agree more. Arguing over whether or not humans are causing global warming or if it is natural, or both, is now moot: we need to deal with it. The question of how long can we depend on cheap oil is now irrelevant: we need to move past it. Who's god is better, or is no god better? Who cares, religious or heathen, we all need to eat, so let's focus on better crop production.

The fighting, the class warfare, the racism, the millenia-old hatreds.......all such pointless wastes of time. We'll regret them all when faced with a crisis we could have averted, if only we'd paid more attention.

You've hit the nail on the head MN, but that's about the only way to inspire big business to change: provide them a profit driven motive for doing something productive or for providing the instruments and tools of war. Ironic isn't it?

Well Winston, it is indeed a sad state of affairs that we are facing; while we are allowing ourselves to be distracted by outside interests and encouraged to quarrel over petty issues, our world situation is growing more dire and critical.

Sadly, this bait and switch tactic may be terminal to many, many innocents. It literally keeps me awake at night; I fear for the future of mankind.

America and other countries are fuel driven societies and should they be starved, it will be disastrous, especially when they are armed with nukes.

What will right or wrong matter to the people affected, they'll be dead or glowing and I see that scenereo looming on the horizon. Have I lost patience with petty blogs squabbles over this vision, yes.

It used to be that survival depended on 3 essential elements, food, water and shelter. Now, to generate the food, water and shelters we are dependent upon fossil fuel energy to provide it.

I'm getting long winded.

Have a great vacation Winston, I'm refocusing my energies, so ~ no worries.

I suppose that one part of the world or another has always been in a sad state, Raven. The question is, is the state we're in now significantly worse than what the human race has dealt with before? I'm inclined to say yes, but then again I didn't live through the Dark Ages, the Plaque, The Great Depression, or the World Wars, nor have I experienced any significant natural disasters. Maybe the state of the world has always looked this sad, no matter who or when the outlook? Hard to say.

Thanks Raven, I intend to enjoy our vacation. It'll be nice to go someplace for a week and just pretend that all is right with the world. Sometimes a couple beers and some steaks on the grill is all it takes to achieve inner peace.

Shudders... I am so glad I don't drive! I hear what you are saying about nuclear war though. You are not alone in the fear that this may yet again become a major issue. There are other happening in the world today concerned with the eruption of nuclear war also, and so it is becoming a concern to many.

Greeting Sandeye, it is my sincere desire and hope that if enough people are quickened to the problem, that a solution can be found.

But first, someone(s) needs to point it out, I have raised an alarm, let's see if it can resonate with enough concerned souls that an answer can be found and action taken before we all go to glowing pieces.

Hey Raven

Sadly this is the very reason why I think very carefully about having children or not. The world we are living in has changed so drastically in the short years i have been around and as the hours tick over so seems the speed of change.

I was listening to a programme today about nuclear weapons and the Middle East and all along those lines and I felt sick thinking of the possibilities of what could happen.

Perhaps I should just go back to Africa and hang out in the dust and dirt where we worry about things like getting running water and when the electricity will be turned back on. All of the above are easily solved by a glass of wine and the flicker of candles!

Greetings Amy, one double coming right up. It’s been that kind of day I take it. It’s always a great pleasure to have you visit.
~ ~ ~
Hey Ash, it’s amazing how the immediacy of luxuries like a steady supply of food, water and shelter are relegated to the level of rights and are taken for granted by modern society.

Here in Alaska, I’ve lived in areas where power was rationed, food came in by plane or ship or was hunted and shelter was built by its occupants; I haven’t lived the total subsistence hunter gatherer life style, but most of my adult life has bordered along those line.

When citizens grow lazy and allow their government to drag them into wars that are eventually fought on their native soil, it’s amazing how fast that a steady supply of food, water and shelter become luxuries and lamentation over the actions of those damn _______(fill in the blank), become imprinted into the collective psyche. They selectively forget this fact; that they (as citizens) also bear a portion of the responsibility.

The nuclear option is a weapon of terror, and that is exactly what it was always intended to represent.

My point for bringing this to the forefront; I believe in the collective power of like thinking, when enough people concentrate their energies in meditation to bring about change, it happens. For example, the C2Cam shows have experimented and altered weather by having their audience will it into manifesting as a real event. Other more scientific tests demonstrate the same thing. Princeton has a Global Consciousness Project (GCP) LINK that bears out the effect.

I’d like to see change affected so that you can feel good about bringing new life into the world or by nurturing what is here already Ash.

Great to see you Clint, a double shot is on it’s way to your table, want some Apple Strudel with it, it’s on the house???

This is a brilliant post... and the sad truth of it all is that I can't foresee change in the U.S. government. I think we're absolutely going to have to hit rock bottom before the "shock value" of it stimulates those who are left to make the right kinds of choices. Even more sad is that I am completely ignorant to politics... never bothered to learn about the ins and outs of the government because I've always held the view that it's all corrupt and my opinion/voice/actions wouldn't matter anyway.

It's getting scary out there.

Loved that UFO comment/response, too. Made me giggle.

Coffee this morning is Foldgers Black Silk, made extra strong, with French Vanilla creamer... and damn, is it ever good!

Hiya W, great to have you visit. That coffee recipe sounded tasty, so I made myself a freshly brewed mug full, aaaaaahhh, so very tasty.

What I've discovered about US politics is this; every vote matters, every vote is vital and every vote not counted weakens us.

One of my favorite things abut Alaska is our access to government leaders. When they conduct themselves well, I can praise them n when they go maverick, I can express my displeasure with them ~ in person. Looking someone in the eye to discuss issues is very gratifying, viewing their body language while listening to their response is very telling and usually reveals more than they'd planned to share.
