When Things Go Wrong
July 27th 2008 16:05
Hi, have you ever had a well intentioned act go horribly wrong and injure someone you love?
Up early a few days ago and working away on a project, smoking fish caught earlier in the week, inspiration laid me low. Missing my wife, Tisha, I decided to wake her up with some fresh hot coffee, ready for the sipping when she came fully back from dreamland. The coffee was in her favorite insulated cup, thus able to remain faithfully hot for her savoring pleasure, when prepared I placed the coffee on her night stand and fanned the scent of the coffee in her general direction. It smelt wonderful and I left the brew to return to my task.
Feeling smug about being able to contribute to a good start of her day; refocused on my work, my heart momentarily stopped when I heard her shout of pain. She came running and was holding her jammies away from her body; the lid had come off of her thermos cup and the contents spilled out onto her chest. She blistered immediately in two places between her breasts.
When the chaos of the situation calmed down and her wounds treated, I discovered that I hadn't installed the lid properly. Now my best friend was suffering due to my carelessness. Good intent aside, she had been wounded by me. Everyday since the initial burn, I listen to her cry out when trying to shower and my heart breaks.
Be respectively careful of hot beverages.
How can a simple apology be enough?

I don't think there is any more I can add except that I hope Tisha heals well and quickly.
Just for a quick little diversion from pain, of the emotional kind, how does one smoke a salmon, do you roll your own? what papers do you use? Is it harmful to your health?
Jokes aside, I guess there'll be no quipping to-day, it will take Tisha a while to get over it.
How about coffee and cake at my place for a change, for both of you.
Looking forward to seeing my two lovely friends as soon as you can make it.
